A turn-based game where fae engage in a spirited fray, collecting shimmering crystals to grow their mystical army.

  • Explore maps in Campaign Mode.
  • Play custom games against bots or challenge friends via Local Multiplayer or Pass-And-Play.
  • Craft your own battlegrounds in the Map Editor.

In this project I combined some mechanics that seen  in games like Advanced Wars, Langrisser and maybe Starcraft.

0.4a linux fails to launch for me.

$ java -jar ./petals.jar
...
Caused by: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: No modes available
...

0.4a win ran fine under wine on linux.

I did notice a reproducible crash.

  1. play a campaign level other than level 1 (starting the level and exiting seemed sufficient)
  2. attempt to play campaign level 1
  3. game crashes immediately without launching the map for level 1

The game was very fun to play.

By the end of the campaign levels I was almost exclusively building archers. 4+ archers were cost effective, quick to get to in the tech tree, and didn't need much healing. Larger swarms of archers were apocalyptic for the bot. I'm not entirely sure how much of a difference having sowers running around with the archers building platforms for the archers affected anything, but it was fun and the ability to build the platforms in one turn made it easy to keep the momentum going.

Didn't really get much chance to play around with the higher parts of the tech tree, but looking forward to revisiting it in a future release.

Nice to know that the game was fun for you. I took notes on bugs and balance. Thank you!

Pretty fun! while some concepts are weirdly obtuse? like the base claiming, and the game usually becomes a back-and-forth stalemate where you balance their arm superiority with your tactics, it's very solid work that's definitely heading somewhere.

Thanks for the review and glad you found the game fun despite its crudeness

The marker is pointing to the tile below, but I see the problem and I will change it a little and will state that the player should move to the marked tile.
